WhoIsIt .90 Beta Published to the Market!

I have just published the WhoIsIt Beta to the Market and I'm looking for some testers. WhoIsIt allows you to setup different ringtones and vibration patterns for you Gmail, SMS, and MMS messages. Ringtones and vibrations can be setup on a per-contact-basis as well. Other features include:
  • Ability to setup VIP contacts for Gmail, SMS, and MMS
  • Allow VIP contacts to ring / notify for Gmail, SMS, and MMS even when in Silent mode
  • Announce incoming caller and SMS/MMS sender
  • Define different volume / vibration profiles
  • Widget for easily switching profiles
  • Tasker plugin
  • Disable LEDs on a per-profile basis
  • Ringleader integration

If you are interested, you can download WhoIsIt from the Market. Just search for "WhoIsIt" and you should find it.

  1. Hi Andy,

Trying to check out whoisit but it force closes on my Droid X. Don't know if it is just my phone or common to the X but thought I'd provide some feedback.

    Thanks
    Matt

  2. Hi Matt,

I developed WhoIsIt using my Droid X, so I'm curious why you are receiving force closes. Does it force close as soon as you launch it?

  3. Andy,

Yes, it was closing right after opening. The .91 update seems to have resolved though. Looking forward to checking it out!

    Thanks
    Matt

  4. Andy,
Does this integrate with Exchange email through the default email client or is it just the Gmail app? If its just the default Gmail, is there a chance in adding support for exchange?

  5. Andy,

All of my VIP contacts are ringing using the default ringtone instead of what I assigned to them.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  6. Enjoy the app. Having simple problem. Created a profile for sleeping, with VIP contact override, and VIP contacts don't audible ring through. Seems simple yet confusing. Thx.

  7. The force close issues for my vanilla Droid were fixed with the .96 update. Kudos!

One issue I noticed. If you change the default MMS ringtone (via WhoIsIt -> Preferences), and if you already have a "configured contact", that contact shows the old MMS ringtone even if you do not have MMS configured for that contact. Does that make sense?

Once these growing pains are worked out I will be happy to make a donation. This app solves a big problem for me.

  8. To clarify - the above was just an example. That behavior is not unique to MMS. It affects SMS, Gmail, Phone too.

  9. Also, simply going into a contact's details (and not changing anything) marks them as a "configured contact"

  11. I did a search for WhoIsIt and I do not see it. I am using the Motorola Devour, may be Market for this phone, there isn't any listing.

  12. Andy,

I installed WhoIsIt Beta and then decided it wasn't for me. But now my phone won't vibrate at all. Have you heard of similar issues? I've tried reinstalling it, creating a profile where everything is at full volume and vibrate is activated, enabling the profile and then uninstalling, and that doesn't work. Help!

  13. Hi Andy. Great little app. Just downloaded the release version.

However, I tried to get some answers through the XDA forum but didn't get any responses (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9397288#post9397288). I am curious about how WhoIsIt & Ringleader differ and how/why to use them with Tasker. Possibly 1-2 examples would be helpful.

  14. Just added a new post that explains the differences between Ringleader and WhoIsIt and how they can work together.
